Family Court Fees to rise again from April 2025
Family Court fees are expected to rise again for the second consecutive year from the 1st April 2025, with selected family proceeding fees set to rise by 3.2%.
This is confirmed by the Ministry of Justice in line with the Governments proposal that court and tribunal fees should increase to reflect the Consumer Price Index.
The Ministry of Justice have stated ‘The income generated from these uplifts will help to support the efficient and effective running of His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service’. They further state ‘These fee changes will provide a significant level of additional funding that will go towards improving service delivery, subsidizing the cost of related court and tribunal services for which we do not charge a fee and reducing the overall cost to the taxpayer’.
Whether you are in court proceedings in relation to your finances and/or children, or if you can agree matters outside of court, parties are subject to family court fees at some point in their case. If you make application to court for financial remedy proceedings or child arrangement proceedings, you will incur the initial application court fee. Parties will also be aware that a court fee is required to issue an application for divorce, whether this be a sole or joint application.
A breakdown of the changes expected to come into force in early April 2025 include:
- Applications for divorce, nullity or civil partnership dissolution will rise from £593 to £612.
- Applications for matrimonial or civil partnership orders will rise from £402 to £415.
- A financial application order for contested financial remedy proceedings will rise from £303 to £313.
- An application for a child arrangements order, specific issue order and/or prohibited steps order will rise from £255 to £263.
- The fee for consent order applications will rise from £58 to £60.A full breakdown of the increase in family proceedings fees can be found here:

“Our family team understand that going through a separation can cause parties a lot of stress and money. The increase in the family proceedings fees will no doubt cause concerns to those going through a separation where an agreement in relation to finances and children arrangements may be contested. Our team works hard to make sure that clients are fully aware of costs throughout their matter and what they can expect should court proceedings be issued to reach a settlement.”
